Yu-balcah belongs to the Sierra sub-region in the state of Tabasco, comprising part of a river plain fed by runoff from northern Chiapas.
It is the First Protected Natural Area of a private-citizen nature dedicated voluntarily and in perpetuity for its conservation. It was officially declared on June 10, 2003.
Yu-balcah is a conservation model that has been successfully reproduced in other places in the Mexican Republic. Its main ecosystem is an association of medium-sized evergreen forest of Canacoite (Bravasia integerrima) and high forest of Cabeza de mico (Licania platypus), a coexistence of forests.

Yu-balcah is an eco-tourism space in the Tabasqueña Tropical Forest aimed at the conservation of biodiversity, and the promotion of environmental awareness among the population to thereby ensure the sustainable use of its natural resources through the promotion of actions of Scientific Research and Environmental Education.
